Smiles For FREEdom 2019

Smiles for FREEdom has got to be our favorite event of the year. Our very own, Kandice Sipkins – a registered dental hygienist founded Smiles For FREEdom in 2015. The program has grown nationwide with dental offices across nine states offering local Smile For FREEdom events in 2018. This year at Sala Family Dentistry, Smiles For FREEdom took place on Friday, May 17. We served 41 Veterans who have served our country for a total of $91,339 in dental work!

At one point during the day, we overheard one Veteran talking to Dr. Todd Sala, he explained how he needed work done on a tooth but hadn’t had the money or insurance to get it fixed. On top of that, he explained how he felt bad about receiving a free service, that he felt as though he was taking advantage of an opportunity. THIS, this is why we continue to provide this event. These men and women have sacrificed their lives to help protect our country and they continue to stay humble and don’t feel as though they deserve anything in return. But we believe they do.

Dental care is a growing need in our country and less than ten percent of veterans qualify for dental services. It is important to Sala Family Dentistry to give back to the community and to help others get out of pain and into happier and healthier smiles.

Since 2015 Smiles for FREEdom has served veterans and/or military service members and provided over $500,000.00 in free dental services! Participants for these events are veterans or local military service members.  All services provided by Sala Family Dentistry and coordinating partners on this day were FREE! All work and care provided by volunteers on this day were FREE. All work was provided at the highest standards of quality and care that we would provide on any given day to our wonderful patients. Free dental services on this day included a combination of diagnostic services, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other possible dental health services based upon individual needs.
